I went to Venice for a long 4 day weekend in May with the
whole Grabau family – Felix, Sabine, Lili, and Gunter. We stayed not in Venice itself, but on the
long, narrow peninsula just to the west in a cute apartment on a long stretch
of sandy beach.
We took a ferry to Venice and this was our first view from the ferry – the Santa Maria della Salute.
Venice is even beautiful in the rain – walking towards
Piazza San Marco along the main docks.
One of the many incredibly beautiful palaces in Venice – all
of which were built on wooden stilts above the water and are slowly rotting
underneath their elegance.
Since Venice has no roads, even the ambulance is a boat.
Here are the yellow ambulance boats lined up in front of the hospital dock.

We went for an evening walk along the beach where we were saying.
A giant regatta was taking place down the Grand Canal on our
second day in Venice. People from all over were paddling all types of boats in
all configurations of groups – from solo kayakers to partying dragon boats
teams to sleek and serious gondoliers – a pretty impressive turnout. This
picture was taken from the bridge by the Accademia

Haven’t you always wondered what the inside of a
Venice boathouse looks like?

Murano – a separate group of islands near Venice,
traditionally an area of glass blowing. Amazing art here.
